It's Been a Bad Night - Here's the DE Ammo Fix
Posted by Toonces T. Cat on Wednesday, December 29th, 10:00 PM CDT

DE Mod moved back to the earlier version:

There were huge compatibility problems with the DE Mod that shipped with the 4.36 patch...'nuff said!. I've reinstalled the old version of the DE mutator on the servers to make sure it runs with all the patches. I've replaced the zip archive with this one, DC-Ammo.zip.

I'll change out the files on the servers and restart them. The original .uz files are back, so the push should work just fine for everyone. The instructions in the README should work for you.

Here's the text of the README File:

Do the following and you'll be able to get into both servers:

1.) Copy both the de.int & de.u into your ut\system directory

2.) If you already have de.int & de.u overwrite both of them

3.) You may save the other versions in another directory, but this is not required

4.) Open your ut\cache directory

5.) Open the cache.ini file with Notepad

6.) Find the line for the DE mod and write down the file number listed in it.
If you do not have these files in cache, then skip down to number 9.)

7.) Delete that line and save the cache.ini file

8.) Find the cache file with the number that matches the one you wrote down and delete it

9.) Start UT and log into the 129.113.170.56 or the 129.113.170.13 server

I apologize for all of the inconvenience!

Replace the DE Mod Files to Play on the Dead Cat Servers
Posted by Toonces T. Cat on Wednesday, December 29th, 7:00 PM CDT

DE Mod moved to the 4.36 version:

I've found what appears to be a serious problem of my own making on both of the Dead Cat servers. I should have figured this out weeks ago, but I've been really preoccupied with things at work and I just didn't put two and two together.

I know a lot of you have had the DE version conflict error and I've helped you to sort it out. I thought it was just a minor incompatibility in the 4.36 patch...not so. The 4.36 patch actually installs an incompatible version of the DE mutator in your ut\system directory. I had been wondering why we've had such a fall-off of newbies on the server and this clearly explains it.

Tonight I installed the 4.36 version of the DE mutator on the servers to make sure it runs with the 4.28 patch. It does, and I've made a zip archive, DE-Mod436.zip, of just the DE mod files: de.int and de.u, along with a README file and put them up on the Filez page for download. All you'll have to do is unzip them and let them overwrite what's in your ut\system directory. I have also made the compressed .uz files for the redirect server and put them in place. That way if you're not going to serve, you'll just need to delete the existing files and take the push. I'll change out the files on the servers tonight and restart them. I'll send out an email notice along with this website update. I could just as easily upgrade the servers to the 4.36 patch, but that effectively locks out anyone with a client version below 4.32 and I don't want to do that yet...maybe in a couple of months, but not yet.

Here's the text of the README File:

1.) Copy both the de.int & de.u into your ut\system directory

2.) If you already have de.int & de.u overwrite both of them

3.) You may save the older versions in another directory, but this is not required

4.) Open your ut\cache directory

5.) Open the cache.ini file with Notepad

6.) Find the line for the DE mod and write down the file number listed in it.

Happy Holidays and a Few Words about the Servers
Posted by Toonces T. Cat on Thursday, December 21th, 10:00 PM CDT

'Tis the season:

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

All of us here at Stuffed Cats Inc. want all of TeamUT to know what a pleasure it's been to serve your video gaming needs during this past year. Many thanks go out to [DC] Puma and Chronos for the great skins; to [DC] Cat-Dog, Chronos, and [DC] Caretaker for the sounds; to [DC] Puma for keeping the network functioning under what were often trying conditions; and to [DC] Mysterian for not giving us too much trouble about using the resources and pretty much just staying out of our way.

I especially want to take the time to thank Zoob for all the good times he gave us on ZWUT Server and also Apotheosis for picking up where Zoob left off. Now Zoob has the TeamUT website well underway and the potential for further bandwidth abuse grows with every new feature he adds. We all saw TeamUT expand from the Dead Cat and Bullet Time clans to include {WYA} which, other than having to take Thorvyn along with the rest of them, has been a pretty good arrangement for all involved. It looks like the {CBGB} clan is falling into the fold...or being sucked into the black hole depending on your point of view...as well. I really worry about hanging out with people that have video game logos tattooed on their body parts, but what the heck...it's like Mick says, " You can't always have what you want." My bottom-line assessment of {CBGB} is that they are probably at least as insane as the rest of us and that makes them okay guys in my book!

One of the major changes I'd like to see in the Road-Kill Journal next year will be the instituting of guest columns and more outside contributions from other members of TeamUT. Barkeep has set the bar very high in this area with his most excellent "Dodging Tutorial." I am resolved to clean up the Filez page and get rid of maps we no longer play and add many new ones as they are written and tested for use on the servers.

Finally, I'd like to say that it has indeed been a real pleasure getting to know all of you...Well, most of you anyway. I look forward to another year of tormenting you with a constant barrage of useless news flashes and subjecting you to an ever expanding universe of twisted cat humor.

A few words on the servers:

As his last official act as the Governor of Texas, the new President Elect, George W. Bush issued a proclamation which allows all State agencies to close at Noon on Friday. Consequently, the Stuffed Cats Inc. Server will fire up at 12:00 Noon on Friday the 22nd and will run non-stop, other than for routine maintenance if needed, until 7:00 AM on January 2, 2001. The Dead Kitty's UT Server will start up at some time later on Friday and will also run until 7:00 AM on January 2, 2001.

The Stuffed Cats Inc. Server will run all of the usual maps and will have a few extras thrown in. I will, in all likelihood, change the map rotation several times during the week. The Dead Kitty's UT Server will be set up to run Four-Team Tournament Death Match. The only mutators running on the DM server will be low gravity and exploding ammo.
