A Really ~Hot~ New CTF Map on the Stuffed Cats Server
Posted by Toonces T. Cat on Monday, April 16, 2001 10:30 AM CDT

CTF-Vulcan's Anvil:

The outside area is appropriately named the Anvil...

All of the areas are accessible with a good dodge move...

The base interiors are no more forgiving than the Anvil...

CTF-Vulcan's Anvil is an extreme CTF map in several ways. Set in a 100% volcanic environment, the terrain can kill you as quickly as the other team. It has a balanced layout and the placement of weapons and pick-ups have been carefully thought out by the author. The last Monarch written map we used was CTF-Magic Kingdomz which, although incredibly beautiful, had serious frame-rate problems. I do not believe that CTF-Vulcan's Anvil will cause frame problems for any medium powered machine. One of the test PCs I used was a PIII 450Mhz, 128Mb, using a VooDoo3 16Mb video card. It ran the map just fine. On my 800Mhz Athlon machine with the VooDoo5 5500 it ran as smoothly as any other map on the server.

All of the areas on CTF-Vulcan's Anvil may be reached...even when you have the flag...if you have the skillz to accurately execute a forward-moving side-dodge. The outside area has a few potentially lethal surprises on it. Negotiate it with care until you know what to look for while you're moving around.

Some of the images and content may contain attempts at humor, but rest assured that no one was laughing on the way to the forum. The [ZEB] Clan vs. The Dead Cats:

We have a CTF match pending with the [ZEB] Clan on April 14, 2001 at 11:00 PM CDT. [ZEB] Kojak is acting as the liaison for their clan. Once again, in the interest of fairness, the match will follow the same format that we have arranged with the Robot-Clan. We'll play two CTF games and the sum of the team-scores from both games will determine the winner. The [ZEB] Clan set all the rules and options for game one.

The Dead Cats have set all of the rules for game two. Both games will be played on the Stuffed Cats Inc. Server at IP: 129.113.176.56.

Each clan has selected their own CTF map of choice. You will find screenshots of the two maps, download links for the zip files, and some brief comments about each map below this article.

Theoretically, each of the clans may field up to 16 players between the two games. This is a fun match, so we'll all work to play it in that spirit...:-) There will be a 30 minute, or shorter, break between the two games.

The Robot-Clan vs. The Dead Cats:

We also have a CTF match pending with the Robot-Clan that is set for April 28, 2001 at 4:00 PM CDT. {R-C} Gusher is our liaison for the Robot-Clan. They are primarily an Instagib clan. The same two-game format that will be used for the [ZEB] Clan match will be followed for this event as well. The Robot-Clan has set all the rules for game one

The Robot-Clan home page may be found here: Robot-Clan

The Dead Cats have set all of the rules for game two. Both of the games in this match will also be played on the Stuffed Cats Inc. Server at IP: 129.113.176.56.

The [ZEB] and Robot-Clan Match Map:

CTF-Esprit de Corps

A few tight hallways, but mostly a wide-open gibfest...

CTF-Esprit de Corp is an old standard that we use to run on the Stuffed Cats Inc. machine. In fact the files for the map were still in place on the server. It should be a fun match with the Instagib option turned on. During the normal operational cycle, it will only run in the standard mode on the 176.56 server as the purpose is to let everyone learn the map's layout...and not to sharpen up your Instagib skillz.

Get the zip file here: CTF-Esprit de Corps

The Dead Cat Match Map:

CTF-Acid Pipe-3

Meanest of the mean...A map that will test your mettle...

CTF-Acid Pipe-3 is of course the Gold Standard on the Stuffed Cats Inc. machine. Elegant and simple, this map is always a true test of skillz, strategy, and team work. This map should be a good choice as its perfectly balanced and ultra-clean layout will allow both the [ZEB] Clan and Robot-Clan players to learn it in a very short period of time. Nothing is hidden and the pick-ups and power-ups are right out there in plain sight for all to see. The Central Core Area...shown above...is a bit tough to master, but everyone will have plenty of time to get there.
