A Dead Cat Exclusive ~ CTF-Crater of Snipers][

Crater of Snipers test run:

CTF-Crater of Snipers

Much Hobi-Wan strangeness to be found here...

Dale "Hobi-Wan" Hobill, author of several Dead Cat favorites such as CTF-Boom Boom Bridge, CTF-Ice Flow, and CTF-Twisting Jungle, is giving us first crack at the refined version of his new map CTF-Crater of Snipers][. This map, in the finest Hobi-Wan tradition, has some off-the-meter weirdness built into it. Of course, our Low-Gravity environment serves to exacerbate the map's unusual aspects.

CTF-Crater of Snipers][ is unique in a number of ways. First and foremost, all of you sniping whores out there will think you've died and gone to heaven...The place is simply lousy with Sniper Rifles and their attendent ammo pick-ups. Second, and of equal importance, if you have really great sniper cover, it is possible to score with a single dodge move. While testing the map, I used this technique against the Cat Bots for about 3 or 4 flags until they picked up on it...After that they made mince-meat out of me. If you like the character of CTF-Ice Flow mixed with the carnage and on-demand accuracy of Instagib, then you'll probably like CTF-Crater of Snipers][.

The Dead Cat Servers are Updated with the UT v4.36 Patch
Posted by Toonces T. Cat on Tuesday, May 8, 2001 3:30 PM CDT

The 4.36 Patch has been applied:

The Dead Cat servers have been updated with the UT 4.36 patch. This has a couple of implications for many players that could possibly keep you out of the game unless you check a few things first:

1.) The 4.36 patch does NOT allow all of the older patches to play on the server. If you are not already at the 4.36 patch, DO IT NOW...I have made the 4.36 patch available on the website for everyone.

Get the self-installing .exe file here: Unreal Tournament Patch v4.36

2.) The DE Mod that the 4.36 patch will install on your machine is fully compatible with the version that the servers are running. If for some strange reason, you experience a version conflict error, I have made a zip file of the de.int and the de.u from the .56 server. It is also available on the Filez page just below the link for the patch. If you are already at the 4.36 patch and get this error, just replace the two DE files and you should be able to get right on the server.

Get the updated DE Mod zip file here: Updated Exploding Ammo Mod

Here's the detailed scoop on exactly what the patch changes or corrects:

Version 436 is completely network compatible with all previous public releases
     of UT (versions 400, 402, 405b, 413, 420, 425, 428, and 432).

***Version 436 servers support only 432 and above clients***

Bug Fixes:

     - fixed joystick button handling code
     - hack fix for bad playerstart in CTF-Coret
     - fixed crash for servers with more than 255 characters worth of server packages
     - fixed problems with single player ladder than cropped up in 432
     - Server now report to clients whether or not they are password protected
     - Fixed incompatibility in ChallengeHUD that caused problem for some mods
     - In the editor, the "TextureLock" option should work 100% now
     - Fixed the editor crash that some people were getting when docking a browser
and getting a crash when trying to restart the editor
     - Rewrote "UEditorEngine::polySelectMatchingBrush" because SHIFT+B was
crashing at random times in the editor. Should be stable now
     - Brush clipping was merging faces on the resulting brush in the editor
     - May have fixed the random "WinMain/message pump" crash in the editor
     - Pre-432 spectators not allowed to join 436 servers due to incompatibility

Custom Instagib Maps for the Stuffed Cats Server
Posted by Toonces T. Cat on Thursday, May 3, 2001 4:30 PM CDT

Dedicated Instagib Maps in the Inventory:

CTF-Killgore~Instagib

What's wrong with this picture?

Actually, nothing is wrong with the picture. Meet CTF-Killgore~Instagib. The map has been specifically modified to allow for the playing of an Instagib Match on a standard CTF server. All of the normal UT weapons, ammo packs, power-ups, and other pick-ups have have been completely removed. They have been replaced by 7 Enhanced Shock Rifles on each side of the map. An ESR has been located either on, or near, each of the spawn-points and one extra unit has been located on the roof of each base.

The map will be available for selection through the MapVote3 window at the end of each game. There are two differences of note between this map and any other map set to the Instagib mode:

1.) You will spawn with an Enforcer in your hand and will have to pick up an ESR. The Enforcer is fully functional until you exhaust the ammo.

2.) The Translocators will remain operational throughout the game. This change places a whole new spin on Instagib. Hitting a a player that is proficient with the Translocator is a bit more of a challenge than hitting one without it.

The zip file is available on the "Filez" page or you may take the push. Remember, that MapVote3 is set up to allow a map to be played only two times in a row. After that it is removed from the selection list until another map has been played. If this works and everyone likes having the option, I am open to suggestions regarding other maps as candidates for this modification.

Pixs and Stats Page for the Dead Cats vs. the Robot-Clan

Dead Cats vs. the Robot-Clan Match Pages:

Dead Cats vs. the Robot-Clan

The Dead Cat Instagib Squad...

The Dead Cat Instagib Squad dominated the map yesterday when they faced the Robot-Clan on CTF-Esprit de Corps. Everyone played a very strong game and the Robot-Clan players never gave up even after the DC lead stretched into the double-digits. The final score doesn't really reflect the true nature of the match and, after watching the Demo File of the entire game, it was not as much of a blow-out as the score would indicate. The Robots played a good game and they never displayed anything less than good humor, resilience, and first-rate sportsmanship.

The games stats also tell the same story. If there was a significant and defining difference in the match, it was the superior Dead Cat teamwork. The offense was terrific, but the defense was simply spectacular!

I've prepared two large pages of high resolution screenshots of the game. The link to the second page is at the bottom of the first page. Follow the links below to see them. I have also made a permanent archive of the ngWorldStats page of the game. The link to the stats page is also listed below and on the screenshot pages.
