Stuffed Cats Inc. Server Passes the Two Million Minute Mark
Posted by Toonces T. Cat on Saturday, January 20, 2002 12:30 AM CDT

The .56 passes another milestone:

Do we still like to kill each other, or what?

At approximately 5:00pm CDT on Saturday, January 19, 2002 the Stuffed Cats Inc. Server reached, and passed, another milestone. While [DC] Frisky, [DC] MCEscher , [HOB] MadDog , [DC] Pretty Man Pete , [DC] Asok , [DC]NoLImiTZ , and [DC] Junior were shooting it out with each other, and the Cat Bots, they went through the 2,000,000 Player Minute mark. It is not unusal that a UT server accumulates this amount of playing time, but only few last as long on the calendar as the Stuffed Cats Inc. Server. We're now in our 3rd year of operation as a Low Gravity CTF server.

The 2,000,000 Player Minute point was reached during play on CTF-Boom Boom Bridge][. In case you're interested, 2,000,000 player minutes equals 33,333 player hours, or 1,427 player days.

The Dead Cats Versus the [HOB] Clan Next Week
Posted by Toonces T. Cat on Tuesday, January 18, 2002 4:00 PM CDT

DC vs. HOB in a two-game shootout:

On January 27, 2002 the Dead Cats Clan will host the [HOB] Clan in a 2 game Low-Gravity CTF match. This will be [HOB]'s first organized match against another Unreal Tournament team. The maps are Hobi-Wan's slaughterhouse of a level CTF-Hall of Redemption - Challenge and CTF-Acid Pipe DCSE. Hobi-Wan is acting as the coordinator for their team. This is going to be a just for fun match with absolutely nothing at stake other than some marginal bragging rights...and, of course, the losing team will be required to pay a mandatory visit to the Dead Cat Helpdesk page.

Here's the official rundown:

The match with the [HOB] Clan will be played on January 27th on the Stuffed Cats Inc. Server. The first game starts at 8:00pm EST. The server will come down and restart in match mode at around 7:00pm EST to give all players ample time to make sure they can get on the machine with a stable connection...and allow for a bit of pre-game practice time.

The rules are 2 games will be played; each game will be for 30 minutes with no cap limit; and all games will be played in the Low-Gravity mode. The sum of the scores from the 2 games will determine which team must visit the DC Helpdesk. There will be a 15 minute break in between the games.

Game #1 - CTF-Hall of Redemption - Challenge: Normal Ammo, and everything
                             else set to default.

Game #2 - CTF-Acid Pipe DCSE: DE Ammo Mod, and everything else set
                             to default.

Five Very Diverse New CTF Maps for Stuffed Cats Inc.
Posted by Toonces T. Cat on Sunday, January 13, 2002 10:30 AM CDT

This bunch runs the gamut:

The large outdoor area is ideally suited for jump fights...

The flag bases are huge with extremely high ceilings...

CTF-Colours][ is the only one of the 5 new maps that has been modified. In it's original form it had four teleporters that took players from directly behind the flag to an area in the center of the map with another set of teleporters that then relayed them back to the other flag base. Essentially, it made the rest of this gorgeous map completely useless. This level may have slightly higher than normal frame rates, but if you have any type of GeForce video card or even a VooDoo3, you should not have any problems with it.

CTF-Light Headed

Make sure your Dramamine is handy for this critter...

CTF-Light Headed is pretty much a straight-up two-forts design...except that the floating islands are rotating in between two black holes. Y'all know the old saying when traversing a high place, "Don't look down!" Well, on this map it translates to, "Don't look up!" The map is for anywhere from 8 to 14 players and all of the weapons, ammo, and other pick-ups are perfectly placed.

CTF-High and Dry

It's an enormous outdoor level with a few inside areas...

CTF-High and Dry is definitely Low Gravity Country. The entire map is fully accessible, including all of the mountain top surfaces. This, of course, makes it a sniper's dream and a flag runner's nightmare. The map also has a few critters on it...which do not respawn as far as I could tell. Once you kill them, they will not return or present you with something even worse. The map is not symmetrical, but it is pretty well balanced in most respects. There are multiple routes between the bases and the lower levels will help you to avoid the bulk of the sniper fire.

I have absolutely no idea at all what this thing is...

CTF-Obelisk is a completely indoor map. It does, however, have reasonably high ceilings and that makes it possible to dodge through most of the rooms and hallways. The Cat Bots excel on this level and scoring will be very tough if even 3 or 4 of them are in the game. With all humans, this will be a very rough game. It's not a spam-fest like CTF-Car Park DCSE]|[, but it will be very bloody. Oh, and did I mention that it's really dark in places?

CTF-Trantic Havana

Details from the pool table to the jukebox are perfect...

The bar areas are loaded with booze and flashy neon...

Put simply, CTF-Trantic Havana is CTF inside a Cuban bar. The map is loaded with beautifully done custom textures that are just plain fun to play in. The map is completely balanced in all respects and the high ceilings and small outdoor areas make it perfect for Low Gravity play. I don't know whether or not this will be a popular map on the server, but the craftsmanship and the imaginative design that went into it certainly merit it a place in the rotation for a try-out.
