Four Brand New CTF Maps - Three From Hobi-Wan
Posted by Toonces T. Cat on Thursday, April 25, 2002 4:30 PM CDT

It's gonna be a new CTF map fiesta:

4 New CTF Maps

Top L. - Close Encounters        Top R. - Pipe Factory

  Bottom L. - Berserk             Bottom R. - Nali Legacy

We're talking four new CTF maps here!

.1) CTF-Close Encounters - This thing is unlike any map that has ever run on the Stuffed Cats
server. You will either love it or hate it. I doubt that there will be any neutral opinions on this

.2) CTF-Pipe Factory - This map is a winner! It has great outdoor areas reminiscent of Desert
, but also an indoor industrial component that makes for a good blend of both environments.

.3) CTF-Berserk - Hobi-Wan has very cleverly turned the brush for An Uphill Battle inside-out
and created one nasty little level. On the "Vicious Meter" this one is about a 9.5 out of 10.

.4) CTF-Nali Legacy - This is the only non-Hobi-Wan authored level in the group. This is a classic
map for the Stuffed Cats Inc. server in the tradition of Faces of the Pharaohs and Templar. It
is a huge map with both indoor and outdoor areas. It will run smoothly on a medium powered
machine and should be great fun for everyone.

Meet DC-209 Based on the Ed-209 Model
Posted by Toonces T. Cat on Wednesday, April 17, 2002 5:30 PM CDT

This one's for the kids and probably a few adults too:

DC-209 in Blue...

DC-209 in Red...

The DC-209 model and skin are just for fun. If you're tired of those Nali Cows, here's your chance to break out and try something a whole lot cooler. The Ed-209 model and the original skin pack were built and designed by Alcor, aka Gilbert Arcand. The e209.u package has a built in reflective environment texture that is unlike anything I've ever seen in a UT model. Alcor has also installed many new sounds taken from the Robocop DVD that give DC-209 a little something special. Turn your music down and your sound effects up and get ready to chuckle...:-)

To install DC-209, just follow the simple instructions included in the zip file.

[DC] and [HOB] Skins Built on the WraithGuardII Model
Posted by Toonces T. Cat on Sunday, April 14, 2002 5:30 PM CDT

Bio-mechanical Dead Cat and HOB skins arrive:

[DC] Toonces has also been a very busy little Dead Cat, along with [DC] Scratch, who got even busier this week. Toonces' new [DC] Clan skin is built on the outstanding WraithGuardII Model, created by Mark "K'Rakarth" Laiman. It is joined by Scratch's [HOB] Clan skin which is also wrapped around the WraithGuardII Model. The WraithGuardII Model does require the use of the Advanced Model Support which will be included in the Xenomorph Kitty and the HOB Clan zip files...both of which are now available for downloading.

Here's the good news about the Xenomorph Kitty skin, the [HOB] Clan skin, and the WraithGuardII Model...All of the very bad things that I had to say to say about the TekkaBlade Model do NOT apply here. This model moves like a dream in the game. It is very smooth both to the wearer and to all the other players and the UT weapons are visible and work just fine...:-)

Be sure to carefully read and follow the instructions on how to install the Xenomorph Kitty and [HOB] Clan skins along with the WraithGuardII Model Kit.

Unfortunate Update on the [HOB] Clan Skin and New Model
Posted by Toonces T. Cat on Monday, April 6, 2002 4:30 PM CDT

Looks like I jumped the gun:

I am sad to report that it appears that the TekkaBlade model is not compatible with multi-color skins in a server-based environment...Stay tuned!.

The [HOB] Clan Gets a Brand New Skin On a New Model

Really big and really skinny:

The [HOB] Blade Skin

[HOB] Blade skin with no color...

[DC] Scratch has been a very busy little Dead Cat. The [HOB] Clan skin is based on the popular anime character, Tekkaman Blade. The TekkaBlade model was created by Michael 'Magarnigal' Mellor for use in Quake. The conversion to Unreal Tournament was accomplished by Bootay[ViDioTs].

The skinning was done solely by [DC] Scratch with only a minor graphics tweak and some very serious rewriting of the .int and .utx files by yours truly. My hats off to the boy as, after really looking closely at the incredibly detailed and complex wireframe for TekkaBlade, I can say that these skins are an amazing accomplishment when you're limited to textures of 256x256 pixels.

Now, before all the whining begins, I have to say a few things about the TekkaBlade model. This thing is a full 3-heads taller than the standard UT Male Soldier model. That doesn't mean that it's one bit easier or more difficult to hit and kill...It's just different. It's very tall and the upper torso presents one heck of a target, but the lower part of the model is very thin and clearly counters the larger top half. Headshots are just as possible...They are simply in a different place just as they are with the Nali Warcows. The other significant oddity is that the player wearing the skin will see his weapon, but the other players will not. The movements and size are different enough that it was not possible to line up the visible weapon part of UT with what is still basically a Quake model. When the [HOB] Blade character shoots a rocket, you will see the rocket leave his hand, but you will not see the UT Rocket Launcher. I hope this doesn't bother anyone especially considering how cool this thing looks running around inside our maps.

I will be sending out an email with instructions on how to download and install the [HOB] Blade Model and Skin Kit.
