CTF-Crispe Park-DCSE and CTF-Crispy Bridge-DCSE

Kick the tires and light the fires!

Alright! Who's got the marshmellows?...

Talk about your hot and kinky players...

CTF-CrispePark-DCSE and CTF-Crispy Bridge-DCSE are virtually identical to the special weapons versions of CTF-CarPark-DCMP5 and CTF-BoomBoomBridge-DCMP5. The only difference is that I've also added Mr. Evil's Crispe Gun...See the enclosed file: CrispeReadMe.htm for all the needed details and information. The Crispe Weapon is actually built into this map, but if you follow Mr. Evil's instuctions you'll also be able to use it as a mutator.

Many thanks to Mr. Evil, Ghandi, and Raven for the super c00l weapons, and a very special thanks to Epic and DE for making a great game and a great editor for us to play with.

CTF-Shotgun Gulch the Dead Cat "Very" Special Edition

CTF-(MP5)Shotgun Gulch-DCVSE...It's more than just another map

No one ever said the good things would be easy to get...

CTF-(MP5)ShotgunGulch-DCVSE is in most ways identical to the special weapons version of CTF-(MP5)ShotgunGulch-DCSE. The only significant differences are the Monolith in the center of the map and the two added chains connecting the mountainsides with the Sniper Towers...plus the fact that both Sniper Towers and the mountain ledges are fully pathed for the bots. The bottom-line is that all of the additional stuff that's new to the level does NOT HAVE to be accessed to play the game. It's there as an enhancement to the level, but also may be completely avoided if you choose to do that. Additionally, each Tower now has a Blocking Volume around it as there were a few small holes you could've accidentally Teleported through if you happened to hit the wrong spot.

Although this critter will undoubtedly get much wider distribution, I built it specifically for use on the Dead Kitty's UT2003 Server. The elements that the Dead Cats find funny will most likely fall flat unless the player has the background to get the inside jokes. Part of the rationale behind making the map was simply to see if it could be done. [DC] Balefire and I had talked about doing something like this since we first saw [DC] DRCray's try at making A Dam Too Far for UT2003. At this point it's really important that proper credit be given where credit is due. Although he did it in a more passive manner, [DC] DRCray thought of it first...Thank you Doug!

The map runs quite well on the following rig at 1280x1024 with all other settings turned up to maximum:

     Athlon XP-1800 CPU
     Leadtek A250 GeForce4 Ti4600
     512Mbs of DDR RAM
     Nothing is overclocked.

This is where it get's extremely weird......I cannot explain the following: The map runs very poorly on the following rig at 1024x768 with all other settings turned to Normal except "World Detail" which is set to "High."

     Athlon 1.2Ghz CPU
     Xtasy GeForce2 Ti
     512Mbs of SDRAM
     Nothing is overclocked.

When I then set the machine to 1280x1024 with every thing set to "High", except "Foliage," which was turned off, and it ran almost as well as the as it did on the more powerful machine...Go figure????

This map is as much an exercise in playing with the UT2K3 A.I. as anything else. To take full advantage of what the A.I. can do, set your bots to Masterful or above if you use it for a Bot-Match. Here's a brief rundown of what's in the map and why it's set up that way.

1.) There are 18 Towers in the map: 6 in each base and 6 more in the center area (Shotgun Gulch)

2.) The large vertical chains are Ladder Volumes and humans can climb all of them in either Low or Normal Gravity play.

3.) Each base has a Tower with a Goo Gun pick-up, a Tower with a Shock Rifle, and a Tower that holds only the Flag. The bots can climb all of these in both bases...There are now 8 Towers the bots can climb. A bot may get stuck on a chain. I only saw this happen a few times and within few seconds it cleared. This only seemed to happen with 14 or more bots in play.

4.) They can now climb 8 Towers instead of 6 as the 2 that hold the Sniper Rifles are also fully pathed. The 6 Towers in the middle that hold the power-ups and the super weapons remain inaccessible to the bots.

5.) The map was expressly designed to be run on Low Gravity servers. Many of the verticals are based on the height of the Low-G Double-Jump.

Finally, DO NOT READ the "SG-DCVSE-ReadMeAfterPlaying.txt" file until AFTER you have played the map...or in the unlikely event that you cannot get through some part of the map, go read it for assistance.

I have also prepared a comprehensive visual tour of the map. Be warned, however, that it contains many extensive Spoilers and...You should not visit it until after you have played the map.

Custom Skins for UT2003 and a "Z" Axis Dead Cat CTF Map
Posted by Toonces T. Cat on Friday, February 8, 2003 00:30 AM CDT

Meet Beatrice...She's campin' the flag in Shotgun Gulch

Beatrice is one of three skins that accompany the model...

[DC]Balefire and [DC]Toonces have spent the last few weeks hounding people in the INA Forums for help in getting custom skins to work in UT2003. Well, apparently our carping and world-class whining finally got to Epic Games programmer DrSiN, and he agreed to help us out...I suspect that just shutting us up was also a motivating factor in there somewhere...;-) There is no doubt that he definitely pulled through for us and produced an excellent tutorial for server admins that provides a step-by-step set of instructions with examples for setting up custom skins on a server.

     Get DrSiN's tutorial here:

DrSiN's Skin Pushing Tutorial

To add the icing to the cake, we are using the excellent Beatrice Skin Pack. The UMod file contains three skins, Beatrice, Flora, and Florence plus the model, and all of the attendant files that you'll need to slip this beauty on. The Beatrice Model and the Beatrice Skin were created by Adam "Cheshire" Lee. The Flora Skin is by Dennis "Kirin" Ramos and the Florence Skin is by Gizmo. Beatrice is also loaded with some great, and very original, animations by Krispy and Cheshire.

If you'd like to wear Beatrice on the Dead Kitty's UT2003 Server, download the file here:

The Beatrice UMod File for UT2003

Also of note is that your copy of UT2003 must be patched to at least version 2186 for the custom
skins to function properly. Get the 2186 Patch here:

2186-Release Patch for UT2003

The bottom-line here is that [DC]Puma is now officially on notice that he needs to get his little cat-butt busy and skin us up a new Cat Bot and some new Dead Cat Clan threads for UT2003.

Welcome to Shotgun Gulch Pardner!

CTF-Shotgun Gulch-DCSE is about vertical movement...

I have added our newest map for UT2003, CTF-(MP5) Shotgun Gulch-DCSE, to the server's rotation. This is the first map on the server to place a huge emphasis on "Z" axis movement.

Here are the highlights about both versions of the map:

CTF-(MP5)ShotgunGulch-DCSE and CTF-(NW)ShotgunGulch-DCSE are the same map with different weapons in them.

CTF-(NW)ShotgunGulch-DCSE contains only the standard Epic weapons and is compliant with UTSecure and should run on any UT2003 CTF server.

CTF-(MP5)ShotgunGulch-DCSE contains an MP5 and a Benneli Shotgun created by Ghandi and Raven. This version may not be compatible with UTSecure due to the non-standard dimensions of the user-made weapons.

These levels are as much an exercise in playing with the UT2K3 A.I. as anything else.

2.) The chains are ladder volumes and humans can climb all of them in either low or normal gravity play.

3.) Each base has a tower with a Goo Gun pick-up, a tower with a Shock Rifle, and a tower that holds only the Flag. The bots can climb all of these in both bases...That's a total of 6 towers the bots can climb. A bot may get stuck on a chain. I only saw this happen a few times and within few seconds it cleared. This only seemed to happen with 14 or more bots in play.

4.) They cannot climb the 2 towers that hold the Sniper Rifles or the 6 towers in the middle that hold the power-ups and the super weapons. Trust me, when you play this with about 10 to 12 Masterful bots, you do NOT want them getting their little virtual paws on that stuff. I had originally given them access to the Sniper Rifles, but when they would move to a defensive position on top of one of the A.I. Scripts, you could not get to the flag. I don't care how mad your skillz are, you're just more headshot bait on this level.

5.) The (MP5) version has Ghandi and Raven's weapons in it. They are not pathed so the bots will only get ahold of them in rare instances...like when they kill you and take yours.

6.) These maps were expressly designed to be run on Low Gravity servers. Many of the verticals are based on the height of the Low-G double-jump.

7.) Both maps contains all of the standard weapons except the SuperShock Rifle.
