The .56 Stuffed Cats Inc. Server Has Been Resurrected

It's baaaack!...:

Hey Y'all,

This is probably going to be the all-time shortest web notice I ever post on the News Page. As the title above says, the .56 is back on a 24 x 7 basis. I will, in all likelihood, have to take it down once or twice a month for updates and general maintenance on the machine. Other than that, it will run around the clock until further notice. I will continue looking for a suitable replacement for UT2003, but it's not likely that I will try anything else until UT2004 is released.

CTF-(NW)Denali Pass Gets An Excellent Review At U.P.

Unreal Playground gives Denali Pass a big thumbs up!...:

Industrial glitz meets winter wonderland...

CTF-(NW)Denali Pass contains only the standard Epic weapons and should be fully compatible with servers that run UTSecure. The map was designed to be used with Romanov's Remote Strike Mod. Another version will be released in the near future that will have the Mod's weapons incorporated into the level.

To take full advantage of what the A.I. can do, set your bots to Masterful or above if you use it for a Bot-Match. The bots will not use the ladder volumes and that is intentional. At the Masterful setting the map became unplayable when they moved to the higher ground.

The map is large, but unlike other Dead Cat levels, it is designed to played in both Normal Gravity as well as Low Gravity. I average 50 to 60FPS on an XP-2700 with a Hercules 9800 Pro. On a machine using an XP-1800 and a Tyan 9700 Pro it averaged 40FPS. On an Athlon 1.2Ghz box with a Leadtek A-250 GF4 Ti4600 it ran at 20 to 30 FPS. If you have less horsepower than that you may have problems once things things start looking like Baghdad nights.

Unreal Playground's Lord Simeon reviewed the level for site:

Gameplay involves 2 duplicate bases, with two routes in and out of each of the bases. The flag bases themselves are enormous with plenty of opportunity for attack / evasive action due to the layout of the multiple tiered walkways. A great inclusion is the ladder volume in the bases and outside areas. There are numerous ladders one of which will take you right to the top of the laser ring if you feel like setting up camp. Spawn points are in the various locker rooms surrounding each flag base in a “CTF-Gauntlet” type fashion. Once you have the flag, the get away routes are in two rooms with a smaller laser ring, kind of like a stargate, which lead to another room located in the outside snowy terrain section. This is where the real fun begins, as the possibility for route changes and X-loc/Hammer jump trickery really comes into play. The outside area is made up of a roughly shaped doughnut of cliffs with two entrances to each base, plus the two really spicy weapon pick ups. There are ledges galore either side of the cliffs, which can be traversed with relative ease. I also tried playing denalipass in Low Grav, as per the map info, and found the ledge to ledge jumping and walkway hopping extremely fun, especially with my friend, Mr Impact hammer...
